Our Achievements

Policy Development

  • Agro-Tourism contributed to the development of FAO's official National Strategy for Youth Employment in Agriculture (NSYEA, October 2017) in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry And Fisheries (MAAIF). 

  • Participated in the FAO-MAAIF Youth Inspiring Youth in Agriculture Initiative, which recognized 25 youth across Uganda with the potential to spearhead youth involvement in agriculture.

  • Contributed to the development of:

    • Uganda's Forest Investment Program under the Ministry of Water and Environment, through its collaborator, Environmental Alert.

    • ZARDI Research and Development Programmes through employee training and product demonstration and piloting.

    • Agriculture Sector Strategic Plan 2015/16-2019/20 for the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Government of Uganda

    • National Agricultural Policy (NAP 2013) under the MAAIF

  • Attended the 2014 Eastern Africa Sub-Regional Consultation on Coherence on Food and Nutrition Global Policy in the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF), where Agro-Tourism Association's CEO presented "Agriculture and Tourism, Partners in Agribusiness Development".

  • Presented paper entitled "Agriculture and Tourism, Partners in Development" at the 39th African Travel Association (ATA) Conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Uganda. 

 

Agricultural Services

  • Business development training for over 90,000 farmers, specially targeting the underrepresented demographics of youth and women. Practical training focuses on agronomy and agribusiness development services.

  • Established both local and international relationships and partnerships with various institutions in the fields of research, training, and academia (including Makerere University, Busitema University, and Princeton University). See Our Partners to learn more. 

  • Oversees over 45 groups of farmers, including many youth and women groups, and various groups and agricultural enterprises from Uganda, South Sudan, Europe, Asia, Zambia, and Kenya. 

  • Published multiple agricultural manuals and booklets, including "Farming as a Business". 

 

Events

  • In 2017, organized a five-day Agribusiness Trade Fair at Mukono location in partnership with Del-Agro Business Enterprises Ltd which showcased over 100 exhibitors and attracted over 1000 participants.
